Supercell's announcement of a new project turned out to be a reuse of resources from a cut project
When Supercell's new game "Burst Squad" officially launched last month, we mentioned that there are still two games in the company's public projects that are in a state of "life and death".
A day earlier, Supercell released a video in which the person in charge said that there would be good news and bad news to be announced.
The bad news: Clash Heroes, an undecided project, has been officially declared grounded.
Here's the good news: it's reincarnated, and Supercell plans to use the game's assets to create a new game, tentatively titled Project R:I:S:E.
Project R:I:S:E isn't Tales of the Tribe, but it has an artistic legacy
In the video, Julien le Cadre, Project R:I:S:E, project leader, and Frame, the project's community manager, bring about the new project moves.
According to Julien, Project R:I:S:E is an action RPG set in the "Clash" universe and featuring multiplayer social interactions.
The game shares the Tales of Tribes art style and assets, but beyond that, everything else was made from scratch. The most obvious difference is that Tales of the Tribes is strictly a single-player game, while Project R:I:S:E is primarily multiplayer.
Video presentation of the new project
According to Community Manager Frame, Tales of the Tribes is more about the social experience, focusing on playing through various levels with various characters operated by other players, rather than just you playing PvE levels alone.
The video also reveals some detailed gameplay, such as in Project R:I:S:E, players will take on the role of a character under the "Clash" IP and team up with two other players to explore a mysterious place known as the "Tower". Each level takes place on a different level of the tower, and teams of players need to climb as high as possible.
In addition to fighting monsters, there are also mechanisms in the process of climbing the tower
Formerly from the Shanghai studio, the new product will be tested in July
It is reported that the "Tales of the Tribe", which was announced to have been terminated by the project from Supercell's Shanghai studio, was originally the only seedling among the three new "Clash" IP titles announced by Supercell in 2021, and the other two "Clash Quest" and "Clash Mini" have been cut earlier.
Tales of the Tribe game screen
In terms of gameplay, "Tales of the Tribe" is a top-down twin-stick RPG adventure game, although it is also designed to play with friends in a multiplayer mode, but it is still based on single-player play, which is quite different from the multiplayer PVP games that Supercell is good at.
The product was stopped, apparently because the content brought by the R&D direction did not meet expectations, and it makes sense to return to the direction that Supercell is good at.
However, the announcement of "Project R:I:S:E" is slightly similar to "Mo.co", another game in development by Supercell, and the two games are also positioned as MMORPGs.
For Mo.co, Supercell describes it as "a supercell-like hybrid of Diablo, Monster Hunter, and Warcraft." Aside from the differences in art style and IP, it's unclear how Supercell will differentiate the two games.
"Mo.co", which is also a multiplayer RPG, is also in development (it has not yet been cut)
At the end of the video of the new project, the person in charge also said that although the game is still in its early stages, the first pre-alpha version test is planned for early July.
